Things that go on at The Store
In addition to my Jello responsibilities, I am in charge of Lindt truffle acquisition. They come sorted by flavor in separate boxes. I mix them into a large cardboard box and store them in the produce room.
I am also the Truffle Defense Officer. We sell rat traps here at The Store *snicker*
I expect truffle loss to diminish this quarter.

The Old School
I went off into the woods near the house in which I grew up. I found the old stone steps that led down to the small brick school where I went to kindergarten and first grade. This one was still looking good after 40 years of neglect. Some steps were just rubble piles of cement chunks in a washed out runoff ditch. This is the one we called The Big Step. We would jump off the bottom step there and think we were soooooo big and awesome and brave.
Then I went to the adjacent spot where the school playground used to be. It is mostly still there, without the monkey bars, teeter totters, slide, and swings. But the trees are still there. This one was our throne. The small royal bottoms of many kings and queens sat on that spot.

Prayer for taking care of people
Into my will, let there pour strength.
Into my feeling, let there pour warmth.
Into my thinking, let there shine light,
That I may nurture [this person] with enlightened purpose,
Caring with heart's love,
And bringing wisdom into all things.
Into my feeling, let there pour warmth.
Into my thinking, let there shine light,
That I may nurture [this person] with enlightened purpose,
Caring with heart's love,
And bringing wisdom into all things.

Ginnungagap
I have heard that Ginnungagap,
where the fire and ice meet,
is a place of dark, warm moisture.
And rain.
Lots of rain.
There was a cow, Audumla,
that licked the ice and rime with her rough warm tongue.
She licked Ymir, the giant, out of the ice.
And from Ymir’s body the world was created.
Nothing like that happened here, of course.
No worlds were created,
no seas, no skies, no stars, no trees, no grass.
There were no giants.
It just rained a lot
and a lot of wine was drunk
and secrets were told and forgotten.
Still, while the rain was falling
and the fire was hot and high,
it felt like a place of magical power
where startling things might emerge out of nothingness.

A Shameless Ploy To Make The Boys Like Me
The town dump. I swear. I found this book there. Amazing, right?
I used this page to make a telegraph key using a rat trap for the key. It was a grand thing. We learned Morse code and wanted to string the wire out of the second floor window over to the playhouse loft, but we were short on wire, and when we almost burned down the school by getting some steel wool too close to the battery... well... it sort of knocked the wind out of our ambition.
I had to use this page to get the coil/circuit thing straight in my mind. When the key was functioning and we were sending Morse code between rooms, our biggest problem was power. Isn't that always the way? Someone suggested connecting it to a car battery, but in our discussion we determined that we would probably blow ourselves up if we did. I just can't remember how we arrived at that conclusion.

BeHeld
Dance me to your beauty with a burning violin
Dance me through the panic 'til I'm gathered safely in
Lift me like an olive branch and be my homeward dove
Dance me to the end of love
Oh let me see your beauty when the witnesses are gone
Let me feel you moving like they do in Babylon
Show me slowly what I only know the limits of
Dance me to the end of love
Dance me to the wedding now, dance me on and on
Dance me very tenderly and dance me very long
We're both of us beneath our love, we're both of us above
Dance me to the end of love
Dance me to the children who are asking to be born
Dance me through the curtains that our kisses have outworn
Raise a tent of shelter now, though every thread is torn
Dance me to the end of love
Dance me to your beauty with a burning violin
Dance me through the panic till I'm gathered safely in
Touch me with your naked hand or touch me with your glove
Dance me to the end of love
